DESTRUCTIVE POLITICAL CORRECTNESS AS A COMMUNICATIVE PHENOMENON: SUMMARY OF MAIN PROVISIONS
Abstract. The paper deals with political correctness as adherence to certain behavioral norms aimed at recognizing the rights of others to be different and respecting representatives of minority groups. This is undeniably a merit of a society striving for social harmony. Political correctness is related to politeness and stands in contrast to behavior rooted in disrespect for others. There are specific deviations from politically correct communicative behavior that can be classified as destructive political correctness. Such deviations include the manipulative use of signs of respect for others, the formalization of these signs, the provocative imposition of minority priorities on society as a whole, and the carnival-like, humorous subversion of these signs.
Keywords: political correctness, euphemization, manipulation, formalization, provocation, carnivalization.
