TRANSFORMATIONS OF INNER SPEECH IN THE PROCESS OF AGE DEVELOPMENT: AN ATTEMPT OF GENETIC RECONSTRUCTION IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF A CULTURAL-HISTORICAL APPROACH

Abstract: The article presents a psychological analysis of the phenomenon of inner speech in the process of its development in ontogenesis. In order to articulate the conceptual and methodological foundations of the proposed analysis, the article attempts to reconstruct the most essential philosophical provisions of the cultural-historical approach of L.S. Vygotsky in the context of studying the phenomenon of “speech for oneself”. The main idea of the article boils down to the assertion that the features of inner speech described by L.S. Vygotsky are not universal and absolute for it, but characterize only one of the stages of its cultural development and are subject to repeated transformation in subsequent ages. In conclusion of the reasoning carried out in the article, the thesis is put forward and substantiated that the activity of reading and writing, which develops throughout a person’s life, radically transforms the mechanisms of internal speech and enables the subject to consciously master it.
