The article shows the role of language in general and the Russian language, particularly, in humanitarian education. Education is viewed as a means of socio-cultural development, in which both the general experience accumulated by mankind (in the process of school education) and teaching   specialized knowledge, skills and abilities of productive activity are transmitted to the learner, i.e. experience within the specialty. The student receives all this knowledge through the language, which contains the most important national values, norms and regulations of behavior and other prescriptions of culture. They are contained in phraseological units, proverbs, sayings and other language units and tests. As a result of our research, we have shown that philology is considered to be the most important of all the humanities, it operates with words – one of the most universal means of describing the world. On the other hand, the gist of the teaching profession in general lies in the active influence on the student, which can be carried out with the help of language as an instrument of all pedagogical technologies.
