PSYCHOLINGUISTIC ASPECTS OF THE ORGANISATION OF TEACHING THE DISCIPLINE “INTRODUCTION INTO THE THEORY OF INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION”

The article provides recommendations to streamline the course “Introduction into the theory of intercultural communication”, which has been entrenched in the curriculum of Russian philology students. The author underpins the necessity to combine lecture and seminar classes, since theoretical knowledge is to lead to the development of practical skills of successful interaction with the representatives of other cultures. A number of methods are listed that are efficient in levera+ging the educational process in this discipline. Concrete tasks are enumerated that could contribute to enhancing students’ practical skills of intercultural communication. The author puts forward and insists on the pivotal idea that philology students ought not only to be taught to think in the foreign language they learn, but also to familiarise themselves with the view of life appropriate to the relevant culture. A conclusion is made that a teacher running the discipline “Introduction into the theory of intercultural communication” is able to deliver to students the main principles of this theory in a most effective way and properly organize the process of education in this discipline in case he/she is an expert in psycholinguistics or is aware of fundamental psycholinguistic knowledge base.
